Co-editor, FocusFeed Online News

The co-editor coordinates work with the other co-editor, seeking relevant articles from various parts of the church community, editing articles submitted by various people, writing headlines for those articles, and helping to proofread for the online FocusFeed news source. The FocusFeed is one of the church's primary internal communication vehicles, and as such helps to maintain the sense of a UUCDC community.

The co-editor coordinates work with the other co-editor, planning and seeking relevant articles from various parts of the church community, editing articles submitted by various people, writing headlines for those articles, and helping to proofread each article.

This opportunity will enable you to: 

Connect more deeply to the church community on several levels, personal and institutional. Gain more appreciation of how what the church does and doesn't do affects our members, friends and the community. Learn more about the many, sometimes subtle, factors that go into all kinds of church matters. Understand more about the occasionally difficult process of deciding on the issues, large and small, of running the church. Get a wider view of the congregation as a whole and of the individual members and friends. The work betters the church community by providing key, timely information and generally maintaining and improving the feeling of community. Learn new website skills.

Skills Needed: 
The co-editor would know what makes for a compelling newsletter article, how to develop story ideas, and have a working knowledge of how the church runs. This person would demonstrate a working knowledge of e-mail and editing via computer, mainly in Word documents. The co-editor would show command of the written language as well as skills in grammar, syntax, punctuation, spelling, proofreading and headline-writing.
Training, assistance, and safety requirements: 
Co-editor Neil Goldstein and Rina Jurceka, who oversees production, will provide advice and instruction in how articles are edited and posted online.
