The Soul Matters curriculum was developed by a UU church in Rochester, NY and has been widely adopted for use in the long standing UU small group ministry team programs around the country. UUCDC subscribes to the rich monthly resource materials that reflect the month's sermon and Sunday School topics. Facilitators structure a meeting with chalice lighting, centering reading, brief check-in, and discussion of questions or exercises chosen by the group before the meeting and some closing activities during the monthly two hour meetings. Selections are made as needed and the entire packet is not covered. Participants write and agree to a covenant for the group and commit to regular attendance and participation. You do not need to have been in a Soul Matters group to train as a facilitator, but be willing to lead one created by the Soul Matters Coordinator. Facilitators meet about twice a year with their colleagues and the Soul Matters Coordinator and to share tips and review packet.
