As the promises we make to each other form the foundation of UUCDC congregational life, we enter into covenant with one another to ensure a welcoming, warm, and safe spiritual community where all feel loved and accepted.

We covenant to…

  • Welcome others with an open heart and a generous spirit, viewing every encounter as an opportunity for personal growth and a way to connect with our spiritual selves.
  • Be present with one another and listen with deep attentiveness, understanding that when we listen to another we create space for them to be heard, acknowledged, and valued.
  • Allow ourselves and others to be vulnerable and to speak our truths bravely, honestly, and respectfully.
  • When disagreements arise, respond to others not with resistance, but with curiosity.  Seek to understand others with grace and patience.
  • Apologize if we have wronged another and practice forgiveness if we believe we have been wronged.
  • Acknowledge and value our differences while striving for common ground.
  • Share our knowledge, gifts, and talents with one another in a spirit of unity and community.
  • Value our diversity and encourage and support those who commit to seeking justice beyond the walls of our congregation.
  • Recognize that persons of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and identitiesare integral parts of our community and welcome them in all facets of congregational life that they feel appropriate to them.
  • Be accountable for the well-being of our spiritual community, expressing a sense of ownership and the understanding that we are co-creators of this congregation.
  • Be true to ourselves on our spiritual journeys and respect others in their own search for meaning.
  • Show gratitude to those staff and volunteers who contribute their time and energy in service to our community.
  • As able, foster a sense of playfulness and fun.

Upholding this covenant is the responsibility of everyone in our UUCDC community. It is a living document and can be reviewed and adapted to fit changing needs and circumstances.  Recognizing that we are not perfect human beings, we may, from time to time, break our promises, but in the spirit of this covenant, we seek and grant forgiveness and begin again in love.
