Chrissy Bushyager

Director of Religious Education

Chrissy’s job is caring—for the spiritual and personal development of UUCDC’s children and youth in Religious Education (RE). “I am responsible for faith formation opportunities for our church’s preschoolers to 12th graders. I also co-lead worship services, supervise volunteers, and provide pastoral support for parents and guardians,” she explains. Her Time for All Ages fables are a highlight of Sunday services. “I love telling stories in worship. I love getting to be part of children’s and families’ lives. I love watching kids grow and develop through our programs.” By shepherding young people, she contributes to UUCDC’s mission: “We are trying to make the world a better place and I believe that we can.” In her personal life, Chrissy enjoys cooking and baking. “You will often find me in the kitchen trying out a new recipe,” she says. “My chocolate chip cookies are a beloved treat at youth group events.” Chrissy adds she likes to be outdoors, hiking or walking with her family and their golden retriever, Bailey.

Megan Grissom

Congregational Administrator

At UUCDC, Megan is a Jill of all trades, helping the church run smoothly. “I work in the church office and do a wide variety of things for a lot of different groups,” she says. “Mainly, I help maintain the website and database, help maintain the facilities and building, create the weekly Order of Service for each Sunday, manage rentals and events, and do the bookkeeping.” She moved to Pennsylvania from the West Coast in 2009 and joined UUCDC in 2012. “My spouse and I were looking for a community for ourselves and our children,” she explains. “We have been together for over 14 years, and we have two daughters and two cats.” Megan leads both of her daughters’ Girl Scout troops and runs her township’s scout service unit, which serves more than 600 girls across 40-plus troops. She adds: “I also love to do crossword puzzles, create arts and crafts, and play video games.”

Leah Laferriere

Religious Education Assistant

Leah assists in operating Religious Education (RE) programs for UUCDC’s children and youth. “I also pitch in to help the church office as needed,” she adds. She is proud to be the mother of three grown children and grandmother of one, with another due in April 2024. In her personal life, “I am refurbishing an old rocking chair for the new grandkids. I love to cook, bake, and clean.” Growing up just outside Washington, D.C., Leah moved 23 times since childhood, but “I’ve lived here the longest, so I guess Media is ‘everybody’s hometown.’” She is not a member of UUCDC but finds it “a nice place to hang out after retirement.”

Bob Rowland

Music Director

Bob orchestrates the music presented during UUCDC services. “On any given Sunday, you’ll find me or the choral accompanist sitting at the piano playing hymns and incidental service music,” he says. “And I direct the choir, which performs two Sundays per month.” The 70-year-old has a long musical background. “I was drafted into the church choir as a child and have sung professionally in all Judeo-Christian traditions since,” Bob explains, adding that he holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in voice, has training in piano and conducting, and taught music for 22 years at a local private high school. He came to UUCDC after being organist-choir director at other churches and musical director of performing organizations. In addition, he lectures in Opera History at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia. “I feel that the music program is important to the UUCDC community, because we espouse a belief system founded on logic,” he concludes. “Music, however, though possessing its own logic, does not speak only to the mind, but often quite directly to the heart. It provides unique spiritual sustenance that all the readings, sermons, and faith statements cannot.”
