At UUCDC, we believe in educating children and youth to enhance their values, beliefs, and relationships.

Religious Education (RE) begins with Sunday School and continues with programs for those in older grades. Our church school year runs mid-September to mid-May for 2024–2025, during which we offer two programs for middle school or high school youth.

Grades 8–9 Coming of Age (COA)

Our 8th and 9th graders are invited to participate in Coming of Age (COA). In this program, youth mark a rite of passage as they move from childhood to youth. The purpose of COA is to give young teens a chance to explore and articulate their faith, values, and beliefs. Additionally, teens and their families are encouraged to consider the changing relationships, privileges, and responsibilities that happen as children grow and change through the high school years.

COA requires a high level of commitment. COA class sessions take place about once a month on Sunday mornings at 11:15 with additional weekend activities, fundraising, and family involvement. There is a $125 fee for COA which covers all meals and supplies during weekend events and a camping trip in April. Due to the nature of this program, newcomers are typically not able to join a COA cohort once the church year has started.

Grades 8–12 Y.U.U.C.K.I. (Young Unitarian Universalists Combined for Knowledge and Interest)

Y.U.U.C.K.I. (pronounced “yuck-ee”) is a youth-led high school group with adult advisers. Meeting Sunday mornings at 11:15 a.m. during the church school year, students plan social events, raise funds for service trips, and are involved in the life of the church. Each year they create and lead a worship service for the congregation during which graduating youth are recognized and celebrated.

Youth who are part of COA are also invited to join YUUCKIs.

All youth attending programs at UUCDC must be registered here.
