Every day, decisions are made by Pennsylvania elected officials that affect people at UUCDC and involve issues we care about.
UUJusticePA (UUJPA) is a statewide effort to bring our Unitarian Universalist (UU) values to the state capital, helping sustain the urgent fight for justice for all in the Keystone State. Spend a few minutes on the group’s website to see how its six justice teams work to make our state a fairer and safer place to live and work, from ensuring reproductive rights to reducing gun violence—and more. Each team offers a wide range of opportunities for UUCDC congregants to create change, from sending occasional emails to advocating face-to-face with lawmakers.
In 2023, our church members signed petitions and sent messages to lawmakers to help UUJPA fight for two causes:
- Raising the $7.25 minimum wage, which is lower than those of all six states bordering Pennsylvania (New Jersey’s is $14.13).
- Prohibiting unlimited gifts to legislators from lobbyists and others (House Bill 484).
Those are just a couple of UUJPA’s priorities for making Pennsylvania more equitable, more prosperous and healthier. Each action you take can brings UUJPA a step closer to those vital goals.
